JOHN CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL HONORED TO ANNOUNCE MR. MICHAEL BRYK AS PRINCIPAL, EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2024

The Office of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Palm Beach is pleased to announce that Mr. Michael Bryk has been selected to serve as the next Principal of John Carroll High School, effective July 1, 2024. Mr. Bryk has served at the school as Dean of Students and then Assistant Principal of Student Life since 2020 and brings a deep institutional knowledge of JCHS with him to this role.

In February 2024, Bishop Barbarito appointed Mrs. Corey Heroux, the current Principal, as the next President of JCHS, effective July 1, 2024. The school immediately began a comprehensive application process and search for its next highly qualified principal in conjunction with the diocesan Office of Catholic Schools and in partnership with Superintendent Mr. Gary Gelo. A diverse committee, including members of the school community as well as educational professionals, was established and trained in the diocesan search process.  The committee engaged in careful consideration and review of all applications received and conducted interviews with the top candidates, with a constant focus on finding a leader who represented John Carroll’s root beliefs and core values. Ultimately, the committee made a recommendation, which Mrs. Heroux then confirmed, to select Mr. Bryk as the school’s next Principal.

Mr. Bryk is a 2015 graduate of John Carroll High School and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida in Social Science Education. In addition, he earned his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education Remick Leadership Program in 2023. While serving as Dean of Students and Assistant Principal of Student Life, he has overseen the school’s disciplinary code of conduct, led its student government program, and established a robust, student-led media class, among many other achievements. He has been a vital force behind the management of the school’s day-to-day operations, working closely with Mrs. Heroux throughout his time in a leadership role.
Mr. Bryk shared with the committee that, “John Carroll High School is a remarkable educational institution and holds a special place in my heart. At JCHS, we know our students, and they know the faculty and staff. I firmly believe that the best days are still ahead for John Carroll High School and that by continuing to build on current momentum, the sky is truly the limit for our students. In order to maximize this potential, the school must have a leader who understands its context, continues the legacy laid forth in a hopeful and humble manner, champions the school’s culture, and engineers improvement across the school. It is my hope that my love for this great school, my learned experiences as an administrator, my gained knowledge in my professional studies, and my unwavering passion for strong and meaningful Catholic education will continue to drive JCHS in the right direction as its next principal.”

“I am hard pressed to think of someone who is more dedicated and passionate about our beloved school than Mike Bryk. He is deeply committed to his faith and is passionate about serving young people and walking alongside them during their time at JCHS,” said Mrs. Heroux. “His faith in Christ is real and evident in all that he does, and I know that he will be a wonderful spiritual leader at our school.  It has truly been a privilege to work  with such a committed individual during these last four years, and my admiration for him runs deep. I cannot wait to partner with him to boldly usher JCHS into the next chapter of its storied history.”

Mr. Bryk will assume the role of Principal effective July 1, 2024.  As such, the school will begin a search to hire a new Assistant Principal of Student Life for the 2024-2025 school year.

John Carroll High School hosted its 2024 Gala, themed “The Great Gatsby” this year, on Saturday, March 9 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The sold-out event raised over $145,000, with approximately $70,000 raised specifically for a new financial assistance initiative, The John Carroll Caring Hearts Fund.

Guests enjoyed a specialty cocktail hour complete with champagne wall, 1931 Model A Ford Roadster vintage photo opportunity, and silent auction kickoff. Among the auction items were front-row graduation tickets, local hotel staycations, a private wood-fired pizza party, and Savannah Banana tickets. Upon finishing the delicious dinner by Wild Thyme Catering, the live auction began with Vero Beach Auction Owner and Auctioneer Dave Kratzer.

Principal Corey Heroux also presented current JCHS President, Rev. Thomas E. Barrett with the school’s 2024 Veritas Servant Leader Award. This award honors graduates, parents, staff, and friends who exemplify the ideals of a John Carroll Ram through extensive service and outstanding contributions of time, talent, and/or treasure to the school. The recipient honorably reflects the school’s mission statement and values.

President Rev. Thomas E. Barrett has led the JCHS community over the past 22 years, contributing a wealth of knowledge, time and devotion. During his time, he has presided over countless school masses and liturgies, witnessed numerous milestones for our school, led our community through challenges and opportunities, and always served as a champion for our faculty and staff, frequently stating that John Carroll’s faculty and staff is “the best of the best.”  Principal Corey Heroux shared words prepared by Diocese of Palm Beach Bishop Gerald Barbarito commemorating this milestone and thanking Fr. Barrett for his years of selfless service.

The successful event was made possible by the tireless work of the 2024 gala committee and the event’s sponsors. Sponsors included Velcon Engineering; Holy Cross Catholic Church; Fee, Yates & Fee; A&G Concrete Pools; Kelly Cambron, Attorney at Law; Mervis’ Cafe and Grille; St. Anastasia Catholic Church and School; Allstate- Eric Ellwood; Expert Drill; HCA Florida Fort Pierce Orthopedics; Cleveland Clinic Indian River Foundation; St. Helen Catholic Church; RJB Creations; Vero Beach Global Advisors; Machio’s Food Services; Ardalan Pediatric Dentistry; Meeting Street and Pastaio; and Advanced Hurricane Protection.

“We want to sincerely thank everyone who attended this year’s gala and contributed to our newly established Caring Hearts Fund,” said Jessica Krueger, Director of Advancement. “The vital education that John Carroll provides is only made possible because of the generous support from our John Carroll community and it shows with the volume of funds raised!”

The final portion of the evening brought attention to a new initiative - The John Carroll Caring Hearts Fund. This fund will provide financial assistance to students in need for the school lunch program, uniforms, retreat programming, and special event fees such as club conferences and field trips, thereby removing barriers to entry for all students to participate fully in the John Carroll experience. The school’s mission statement reads that the school is committed to educating the whole child–emotionally, spiritually, physically, and academically–and The John Carroll Caring Hearts Fund will allow us to better live out this mission each and every day.

“I could not be more happy with the success of our annual gala this year.  It was truly a beautiful evening of fellowship with our John Carroll family, and the generosity of our school community and their on-going support of Catholic education never ceases to amaze me!” Heroux said.
