Parent’s Name & Signature_______________________________________

Classroom

1. Students are to come to class prepared to learn, alert and with supplies.

2. Students are to show respect for the teacher, other students, and the surroundings.

3. Clean up is essential before leaving the room. I am not your housekeeper.

4. Sleeping or working on other subjects’ classwork is unacceptable.

5. Gum, food, candy, or drinks (including bottled water) are NOT allowed in the classroom.

6. Students are expected to do their best.

Absences

1. In the case of an excused absence, the student is responsible for finding out what assignment(s) have been missed, completing the assignment(s), and returning the assignment(s) to me within three days.

2. If a quiz or test is missed, it will be made up the day the student returns, either before or after school.

3. If a student is absent on the day a project is due, the project is still due on the assigned day during or before the student’s assigned class period. Failure to get the project to me will result in points being deducted from the late project.

Conferences

1. I am available for conferences. If you need to speak with me, please call the school (464-5200). I will return your call as soon as possible. The best way to contact me is via email, jones@johncarrollhigh.com.

2. Parent/teacher conference night, at which the parent can meet with all of their student’s teachers, is scheduled for September 26 at 7 p.m. Others may be scheduled as needed.

Grading Policy

1. Grading is based on a nine week marking period.

2. Semester exams are mandatory for all classes.

3. Semester exams are worth 20% of the semester grade.

4. Grades and their percent values are as follows:

A 90-100

B 80-89

C 70-79

D 60-69

F 59 or below

5. Deficiency reports will be sent for all mid-quarter grades 74% or below.

6. I grade on a total points system. There will be three or four large tests each nine weeks. These will be approximately 50 points each. There will be a quiz after each chapter section, usually 10 points each. Homework will be assigned on average, three days a week worth approximately 5 points each assignment. I do not accept late homework. You need to bring it to class when it is due. Example, “I left it in my car, locker, etc…”are not acceptable excuses. Participation, a separate grade, for the entire nine weeks is worth 50 points. At least once a quarter, projects will be assigned; they will vary in their point value depending on the intensity of the project. A POW (Place of the Week) will be collected from you every Wednesday- schedule to follow. These are 5 points each, and the student having the location that I choose for that week will receive 5 points extra credit. There will be a test at the end of each nine weeks over all of the POW’s with the intention of your being able to locate approximately thirty different locations around the world on a blank map for the final exam. Total points for the nine weeks usually average around 500-600.

7. Study guides/outlines will be turned in the day of a test for a homework grade.

Dishonesty

1. During any time of testing or quizzing, there will be no form of communication with any other student. If such communication takes place, the student(s) will receive a grade of zero on that test or quiz.

2. Unless otherwise stated, work is to be done independently. Any student involved in cheating will receive a zero.
